The Guatemala national football team is controlled by the Federacion Nacional de Futbol de Guatemala, founded in 1919. In 1946 it became the member of FIFA and CONCACAF.
The team made three appearances in the Olympic Games (1968, 1976 and 1988) and has never qualified for the World Cup finals though reached the final round of qualification campaign four times.
Its major achievements are winning the 1967 CONCACAF Championship and the 2001 UNCAF Nations Cup. Finishing fourth in the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup Guatemala showed its best ever result.
