The Latvia national football team made its debut in 1922 playing a draw with Estonia. After the dissolution of the USSR, Latvia made the most notable achievement qualifying for Euro 2004. In the European Championship Latvia was drawn in group D with Germany, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. They managed to play a goalless draw with Germany and then the Czech Republic defeated the team 2-0. After that Latvia lost the final game to the Netherlands 0-3 and was eliminated from the group.
The team has been managed by Marian Pahars since 2013. Maris Verpakovskis is the top scorer (28). The team’s home stadium is Skonto Stadium. Latvian footballers wear maroon kit with white trims as the first one and white with maroon trims the second one.
Latvia showed good results in the Baltic Cup Championship, becoming winners for 11 times.
