The Madagascar national football team hasn’t qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup yet. The team’s debut was in the tournament held between three countries: Madagascar, Mauritius and Reunion in 1947. That was a 1-2 loss at Mauritius.
In 1960 a tournament between French-speaking countries was held on the island and Madagascar beat Burkina Faso 6-1, lost at France’s amateur team 1-2 and overwhelmed Congo 8-1.
One more tournament between French-speaking countries Madagascar participated in was in 1963.They won Dahomey 1-0, Chad 2-1and Liberia 3-1. Then the team suffered two losses and finished third.
The team’s home ground is Stade Mahamasina, which is a 23,000 multi-purpose stadium, built in 2005.
