The Malawi national football team, known as the Flames, is ranked 93rd in the FIFA ranking list. Kinnah Phiri heads the team.
It has never qualified for the World Cup finals. In 1984 and 2010 the team reached the Africa Cup of Nations finals. In both tournaments the team was eliminated after the first round.
In 1987 Malawi won gold medals in All Africa Games.
The team’s biggest win was in 1968 and 2008 in the games against Botswana and Djibouti. The biggest defeat was in 1962 when Malawi was beaten by Gold Coast 0-12.
