The Pakistan national football team is governed by Pakistan Football Federation. The team has never qualified either for the FIFA World Cup or Asian Cup tournaments. The first international match was held in January 1950, it was a 5-1 loss at Iran. In 1952 Pakistan was the joint champion of Colombo Cup along with India. The following three years Pakistan was runner-up. In 1960 the team was the runner-up of Merdeka Cup. Twice they were the Quaid-i-Azam Tournament runners-up.
In 1965 the team participated in RDC Cup for the first time and finished third, the same result was achieved in 1967, 1969, 1970 and 1974.
In 1993 Pakistan competed in South Asian Football Federation Cup and finished fourth, since then their best result at the South Asian Football Federation Cup was the third position, which they achieved in 1997 and 2005.
The Pakistan national team home ground is Punjab Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000. They also use Jinnah Sports Stadium with a capacity of 48,800 spectators.
