The Puerto Rico national team represents Puerto Rico in association football. It is mastered by Federación Puertorriqueña de Fútbol which was founded in 1940 and affiliated to FIFA and CONCACAF in 1960.
The team made its international debut in a 1-1 draw with Cuba in November 1940. There is a tidbit about the squad that it enjoyed its maiden win only 30 years after the debut beating the Bahamas 3-0 in 1970.
The national team of a minute Caribbean state has never enjoyed a tremendous surge in popularity. It has never broken into the World Cup finals and is not a powerhouse side in the Caribbean Cup. The squad had overall 10 appearances in the tournament climbing up to the quarter finals at the utmost. Puerto Ricans suffered their biggest 0-15 rout to even smaller state Netherlands Antilles in January 1959. However, most recently in 2012, they celebrated their biggest ever 9-0 win over Saint-Martin.
As of September 2012, Puerto Rico has the 137th position in the FIFA ranking.
