The Sierra Leone national football team, known as The Leone Stars represents the country in international tournaments. Football is the most popular sport is the country. The Sierra Leone Football Association was founded in 1967 and that year it joined FIFA and CAF. There are 40 football clubs, over 2000 football players and 109 referees. The team’s kit colors are white pants, green shirts and blue socks.
Sierra Leone National Premier League has been hold since 1977 and lasts from February till December. Fifteen teams of the premier league take part in it. East End Lions and Mighty Blackpool are the strongest clubs in the country. Sierra Leone National Premier League is controlled by Sierra Leone Football Association.
The clubs from Sierra Leone show poor results in the African Cup of Champions. Mighty Blackpool reached the quarterfinal in 1989 and that was the best performance. The national team’s most notable games are the matches with Niger 5-1, Sao Tome and Principe 4-0. The Sierra Leone’s worth ever result was shown in the game with Ghana 0-5 in 2000.
Ibrahim Koroma, Kewullay Conteh, Kewullay Conteh, Chris Bart-Williams, Sidique Mansaray, Mohamed Sillah, Abu Kanu are famous footballers from Sierra Leone who dispersed in such countries as Belgium, England, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Sweden.

There are some FIFA Referees from Sierra Leone who refereed the matches when African teams and clubs played. Edward Parkinson, Ahmed Jalloh, Samuel Kamara, Rashid Sanusie are among them.
The national youth team finished as runner-up in the 2003 African Under 17 Championship in Swaziland and in that year the team participated in FIFA Under 17 Championship where finished last in its group.
