The Tajikistan national team represents Tajikistan on the Asian and international scene. It is overseen by the Tajikistan National Football Federation which was founded in 1934 and joined FIFA and AFC in 1994.
The team made its debut in a 2-2 draw with Uzbekistan in 1992, though it played its first official game against Kazakhstan in April 1994. The Tajikistani team got a first taste of a notable official competition entering the Asian Nations Cup in 1996.
Tajikistan has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals or for the Asian Cup. It only met success in the AFC Challenge Cup as it bore the palm in 2006 and finished runner-up in 2008.
The Tajikistani team celebrated their biggest ever 16-0 win over Guam in 2000. Their biggest loss came in 2011 as they were sunk 8-0 by the powerhouse Japan.
As of September 2012, the team is ranked 142d in the FIFA table.
