Abate wants to stay in Milan

The Italian defender was linked with a transfer to Russia, yet Abate says he is committed to Milan.

The Rossoneri have reportedly refused to sell the right-back Ignazio Abate during winter transfer window. The Italian was of interest for Zenit St Petersburg, but the player himself claims that he does not want to leave Serie A.

“Leaving Milan? Galliani received an offer for me, but he said to me that the Milan want me to stay put. I have always worked hard for this team and behaved professional and will continue to do so,” Abate told reporters.

The player stated that the team’s aim in domestic championship is to reach Champions League place.

“Finishing third in Serie A will depend on the games against our direct opponents. It’s only normal that the team will have to win those fixtures if you want to qualify for the Champions League,” explained thedefender.

Italy international also praised young Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy, who has become a new hope for the team.

“El Shaarawy can be decisive between now and the end of the campaign. He carried the side for a long time, and is now paying for that a bit,” claimed Milan player.
