Ambrosini, Abbiati injury woe for Milan

Ambrosini, Abbiati injury woe for Milan

Milan have suffered a major blow to their chances of reaching the Champions League spot this season with the news their captain Massimo Ambrosini and goalkeeper Christian Abbiati sidelined due to injuries.

Ambrosini was forced to come off after sustaining an ankle injury during the Rossoneri 1-0 Serie A defeat against Juventus. Abbiati limped off in the 15th minute with a calf damage and was replaced by Marco Amelia.

Statement on Milan official website read: “AC Milan would like to communicate that Massimo Ambrosini sprained his right ankle during the match against Juventus and has suffered some ligament damage. Christian Abbiati, meanwhile, has strained his right calf. Both will have a better idea of how long their recovery time will be further into the week.”

Both players are set to miss the forthcoming Serie A clash against Catania. Nigel De Jong is also sidelined through the injury, while Cristian Zapata is suspended.

Milan are currently sitting in the third place, outstripping fourth-placed by one point and trailing second-placed Napoli by seven points.
