Arsenal boss Wenger concerned with Chelsea’s spending power

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed he is ‘afraid’ of Chelsea’s bottomless pockets in summer as their London rivals set to sign several new players under new manager.

The Blues are looking to hire new manager at the end of the season with interim Rafa Benitez unlikely to be offered a permanent deal. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is expected to offer provide his new manager with a sound transfer budget to bolster the squad.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao and Wenger fears the Blues will be a strong competitive force at the transfer market in summer.

The Frenchman said: “I’m afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer. We have to be prepared for them to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment once the window opens.

“Even though they already have a great base to their squad, notably their young players such as Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires and Eden Hazard, I think they will be busy during the transfer window. We’ve heard a lot of talk about Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. Some people say it’s already a done deal, but I’ve heard nothing,” he added.
