Arsenal join Stekelenburg chase

According to Transfermarketweb.com Arsenal have step up chase to sign Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The 30-year-old fell out of favor with Roma coach Zdeněk Zeman who prefers using Goicoechea between the sticks. Since Stekelenburg went down with a thigh injury Goicoechea has gained an impressive form. After the Dutch goalkeeper has returned to fitness he failed to get his first-team place back, given that Zeman favors hot hand over name recognition. All in all he has made just 9 appearances this season and revealed about his frustration about lack of first-team opportunities.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to open their cheque book to land the £8-million-rated goalie. Fulham and Milan are said to be closely monitoring the situation.
