Arsenal released Arshavin, Squillacci, Denilson
Arsenal confirmed they are not going to renew contracts of trio Arshavin, Squillacci, Denilson and are prepared to release the players as soon as their deals expire on the 1st of July.
Arshavin joined the Gunners for a record-breaking £15 million back in 2009. The Russian hit the ground running and wowed both the fans and the coaching staff with the series of excellent performances in the first six months of his four-year stay at Emirates stadium.
However during his second season he struggled to regain his initial inspiring form, that allowed him scoring all four goals in spectacular 4-4 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on the 21st of April, 2009. That night remained the peak of his career at Emirates stadium, as he has never been able to return to his best. As a result he was deemed surplus to requirements by Arsene Wenger and loaned out to his former club Zenit in 2012. He has made just 11 Premier League appearances this season.
Meanwhile Squilacci has been limited to just one outing this season due to serious fitness issues and series of injuries, while Denilson spent two seasons on loan at his childhood club Sao Paulo.
Arsenal statement read: “Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci will leave the club when they come to the end of their contracts on June 30, and Arsenal would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their contribution and wish them well for the future.”
