Arsenal set to pay £30m for Fiorentina Jovetic

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, however the transfer fee could be a major stumbling block.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been given a £70 million war chest to spend on new players this season, and the Frenchman has made signing of quality striker his priority as Giroud proved he cannot serve as a decent replacement for Robin Van Persie.

Wenger put highly-rated 23-year-old striker Stevan Jovetic, who scored 13 goals in 31 appearances for the Serie A side, on top of his wish-list. However Fiorentina slapped a £30 million price-tag for the Montenegrin to scare off Wenger, whose obsession with value is well-known.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniel Prade confirmed Jovetic may have played his last game in violet shirt. He said: “Is this his last game with us? Never say never. We will give a response only after a meeting between the player and Della Valle. Juventus still have not asked us about Jovetic.”

Should the Lilies remain steadfast in their decision to hold onto player’s services, Wenger could turn his attention to out-of-favor Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.
