Aston Villa to extend Dunne’s contract

Aston Villa to extend Dunne’s contract

Daily Mirror reports Aston Villa are set to offer their veteran defender Richard Dunne a new contract, despite the fact that the 35-year-old player is yet to make his first appearances this season.

Dunne has been out of contention since Euro-2012 due to series of hip and groin injuries and has undergone three operations. He enters the final year of his contract at the Villa Park and was expected to leave on a free transfer.

However Villa boss Pau Lambert hinted at possibility of offering a new deal for the Republic of Ireland international. He said: ““It is not a case of running out of time. I know what the guy can do. It is not as if he is 19 or 20 years old and has to impress. I have an open mind but the main thing for me is that he is going to be fit again.”
