Aston Villa Weimann clinched a new deal with the club
Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann signed a new long-term deal with the club.
21-year-old Austria international clinched a lucrative three-year extension to his current deal, that will keep him at Villa Park up until 2016. Weimann has been one of the few bright spots in otherwise unremarkable Aston Villa’s season. His 12 goals in 38 first-team Premier League starts helped his side to narrowly avoid relegation.
The new deal effectively puts end to the speculation surrounding his future. Weimann revealed he is delighted to have signed a new deal with the club, stating: “I’m really happy that I’ve signed. I have a feeling of being at home here at Aston Villa.
Young forward, the product of Aston Villa youth academy, said he relished an opportunity of playing in the first XI against the high-profile opposition. He said: “I’ve been here for six seasons now, having started with the Academy in 2006, and last season was tremendous for me and terrific for the team the way we played over the second half of a really demanding campaign. On a personal level, I didn’t expect at the start of the season that it would go the way it did, with me being involved and starting games almost the whole of the way through.
“It was exciting to be part of the team’s development because the potential within this young, exciting team is really strong. The last several months of the season we played really well and got better and better as the season went on. Hopefully, we can continue on like we finished and that will be the challenge,” he added.
