Atletico Madrid to bid for Wolfsburg’s Diego

Atletico Madrid to bid for Wolfsburg’s Diego

Wolfsburg’s playmaker Diego revealed Atletico Madrid are determined to land him on permanent basis, as the Brazilian managed to impress Atletico Madrid’s boss Simeone during his season-long loan spell at Vicente Calderon.

The 28-year-old has spent the 2011-2012 season on loan at the La Liga side, helping them to lift Europa League trophy before returning to his parent club.

With only year left on Diego’s current deal, there are numerous clubs willing to land him in a cut-price deal. The Brazilian himself revealed he wants the situation to resolve as soon as possible, stating: “It’s important for my mind and for the preparations for next season. The president and coach of Atletico have both told me that they want me and I have a concrete offer. We now just have to talk to Wolfsburg and see what’s best.”

The Bundesliga side is prepared to listen to the offers, but also considering the possibility of extending Diego’s deal. Wolfsburg’s boss Dieter Hecking said: “Anybody who saw Diego playing today can understand that we will receive offers for him. Out of respect for Diego, we will listen to everything, but I cannot imagine us selling him, unless an offer is so good that we can’t turn it down.”

Diego netted 10 goals and set up another 8 this season.
