Atlético Mineiro clinches Copa Libertadores

Atlético Mineiro have won the Copa Libertadores for the first time in history having come back from two goals down at the hands of Olimpia after the first leg in Paraguay last week.

It was Jo and Leonardo Silva who levelled the score on aggregate and the match went on to the series of penalties where the Roosters outclassed the rivals. Ronaldinho has become the forth Brazilian to win both the UEFA Champions League and Copa Libertadores, along with Cafu, Dida and Roque Júnior.

“It was the title I was missing. I came back to Brazil for this. Everyone said I was finished, let them talk now,” Ronaldinho told reporters after the match.

Cuca, Atlético coach, put the victory in simple words, “When it’s written, it’s written, this was meant for us”.

Atlético are now due to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup later on this year.
