Azzurri should progress says Prandelli

The head coach of the Italian national team Cesare Prandelli acknowledges the team’s performance is far from impressive.

Italy managed to escape from a defeat in the friendly fixture against Netherlands as Marco Verratti leveled the score in stoppage time 1-1. The host side looked much more confident in the game opening the score on 33 minutes courtesy of Jeremain Lens shot. Italy pushed for equalizer only in the second half as Alberto Gilardino and Pablo Osvaldo efforts were close to target before Verratti netted minutes before time.

The Italian head coach was not optimistic after the game, underlining: “There is still much work to do to let me team play the game I want,”

“It is always difficult to get everyone focused for matches like this and only the final 20 minutes we played fierce and aggressive and that paid off,” added the manager.

Prandelli was also critical of the offensive line of his own side, claiming:“The expectations of Balotelli and El Shaarawy were high due to their status at their clubs but now it is time for them to take responsibility in the national team and deliver.”
