Barca gives away a young star
Isaac Cuenca loan move to Ajax is surprising to say the least.
The young talent was remarkable last season, impressing the fans and the coaching team alike, yet the Catalan side seems to give up on the player’s progress after Cuenca sustained a knee injury and was sidelined for eight months. The winger did not appear in the pecking order this season and during January transfer window he was given to Ajax.
Initially Cuenca refused to sign the contract, but later decided to change his mind and to move to the Dutch team where he was promised more playing time.
The sides settled the terms of the contract just hours before the end of the winter transfer window. According to the deal, the clubs will give 50% each to the player’s wages.
Ajax head coach Frank de Boer was more than pleased after the deal was signed, claiming “Cuenca is a welcome reinforcement as we are not always steady with our wingers.”
The winger was chased by other Spanish sides most notably Valencia made requests about the player. Zaragoza, Granada and Betis were reportedly interested in him, but it is clear Barca decided to give the rising star to the non-Spanish team.
