Barcelona crowned La Liga champions after a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid

Barca came from goal behind to secure a 2-1 victory by courtesy of Sanchez’s goal and Gabi’s own goal at Vicente Calderon and claim La Liga title.

Radamel Falcao opened the scoring six minutes into the second half only to see his effort cancelled out by Sanchez 20 minutes later. The Blaugrana scored the match-winning goal eight minutes later when Villa miscued the shot and the ball bounced off Gabri into the back of the net.

The victory was marred by injury of Lionel Messi, who limped off the pitch in the 76th minute after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury. As Vilanova used all Barca subs, they were down to ten men for the remaining 10 minutes. However Atletico Madrid gfailed to capitalizer on their numerical advantage and Barca claimed a deserved victory over third-placed Madrid side.

The result means Bacelona opened up an unassailable ten-point lead at the top of La Liga table, as Real Madrid drew the game against Espanyol with two games remaining.
