Bayern would be ‘very happy’ to sign Rooney

Honorary Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer revealed he likes the prospect of Rooney joining the ranks of German giants.

The recent speculations have linked Wayne Rooney with a move away from Old Trafford after he was omitted from the starting line-up for arguably the most important game of the season against Real Madrid by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Despite Ferguson ruling out the speculations, saying he offers his star new contract as soon as it would be necessary, the doubts remain over Rooney’s future.

Beckenbauer has fuelled these rumours by revealing he would be ‘very happy’ to see England striker playing at Allianz Arena nest season. “I would be very, very happy if Wayne Rooney decided to come to Bayern Munich. But is this a rumour or is it true? I don’t know!”

Meanwhile Rooney has featured in FA Cup quarter-final Man Utd’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, scoring a goal from a free-kick in the 11th minute of the game.
