The biggest winners on the transfer deadline day

The biggest winners on the transfer deadline day

Now that the transfer window is shut we can summarize the results of the clubs’ activity on transfer market.

With some of the big guns like Manchester City, Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur sealing the deals for promising players long in advance, many left it late to wrap up the rookies. Manchester United and Arsenal seemingly lost their pulling power but managed to attract Marouane Fellaini and Mesut Ozil respectively minutes before deadline. Liverpool have been the most consistent in signing solid players throughout the summer but in our opinion it is Roberto Martinez and his Everton who have topped the list of the most successful deadline day dealers.

The Toffees have drawn all of their three starting games of the season scoring mere two goals and lost playmaker Marouane Fellaini who put in a transfer request hours before time. It could not get any worse but then the Spanish manager revealed the signing of a promising talent James McCarthy from Wigan Athletic and loan deals for experienced Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry and Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

The 22-year old James McCarthy worked with Martinez at Wigan and won the FA Cup last year, so his abilities will definitely breath life to Everton’s midfield. Gareth Barry, who would most likely be playing a second-string role in Pellegrini’s squad, preferred to join Everton where he could have regular appearances in a bid to impress Roy Hodgson ahead of the World Championship in Brazil. He will absolutely add quality to The Toffees. Arguably one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League, Romelu Lukaku, proved his quality last season, scoring 17 goals for West Bromwich Albion.

All these markee signings cannot but improve Everton quality and allow them to fight for European places once again.
