Borussia Dortmund determined to retain Lewandowski this summer

Borussia Dortmund director of sport Michael Zorc revealed they will do their utmost to retain prolific forward Robert Lewandowski, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

The recent rumours suggested the 24-year-old Pole is destined to follow the steps of his teammate Mario Goetze, who set to join the Bayern Munich ranks in July. Lewandowski himself earlier confirmed he is going to complete a switch to his ‘dream club’ this summer. But Dortmund insisted they are reluctant to part ways with their valuable asset and urged the player to honour his contract which is due to expire in 2014.

Borussia Dortmund director of sport Michael Zorc said: “We have communicated to the player and his advisers that we will not agree to a transfer to FC Bayern this summer.” This stance means Lewandowski is likely to leave Westfalenstadion for free, as soon as his contract expires, with Bayern Munich being his most likely destination.

Zorc expects their striker remaining fully committed to fulfilling his duties at the club. He said: “There will be with him now perhaps a small phase of disappointment. But then he will deliver his usual performance, as does a professional with character… and Robert has a whole lot of character.”
