Bruno Metsu dies at the age of 59

The French coach Bruno Metsu dies at the age of 59 after a one-year battle against cancer.

The manager played in many French and Belgian clubs and had a rich coaching career since 1987. In 2002 Metsu guided the Senegal national team to the last eight in the Word Cup after beating France and Sweden and drawing with Denmark and Uruguay. After that the Frenchman managed clubs and national teams in the Middle East but was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012 and has fought against the desease ever since.

He died on October 15 in his hometown Coudekerque in France.
