Bundesliga results: Bayern defeats Leverkusen and other matches
Bayern Munich sealed a 2-1 victory at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday to go 20 points clear at the top and a step away from Bundesliga title.
Jupp Heynckes made a number of changes in Bayern squad comparing to the Champions League defeat to Arsenal with Mario Gomez coming as a replacement to Mario Mandzukic.
The Bavarians opened the score on 37 minutes with a superb solo effort by Gomez scoring his seventh goal in the league. Bundesliga leaders outplayed the opponents and were close to doubling the lead when Luiz Gustavo headed home for Gonzalo Castro to clear the ball off the line. Simon Rolfes leveled the score on 75 minutes firing in a corner at the far post, yet in the end the Bavarians managed to steal the win when Bastian Schweinsteiger’s 87th-minute free kick was deflected into the target by off Philipp Wollscheid’s shoulder.
Bayern have 69 points with eight matches left and if they claim victory in their next match and Borussia play in a draw, the Munich-based side will lift the title of the league.
