Champions League highlights: Real Madrid 3-0 Galatasaray
Los Blancos shine at the Bernabeu, while the Turks spent a miserable evening.
Real Madrid continues to dream about a 10th Champions League title as the Spanish champions were much more focused and intelligent in the game against Galatasaray. Mourinho’s men made a powerful display at the Bernabeu and Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener just nine minutes into the game lifting a shot beyond Fernando Muslera in the post. Karim Benzema doubled the score 20 minutes later, giving the hosts a clear advantage.
In the second half Gonzalo Higuain bagged a third one thus giving the Spaniards a great deal of confidence ahead of the away fixture. Galatasaray have never celebrated victory in Spain in the Champions League and now should hope to turn the things around at home.
“Knowing the mentality of Turkey and Fatih, they will do all they can to get through and do something historic,’’ stated Real’s coach Jose Mourinho after the game.
“They need a miracle but there are miracles in football. The history of football is full of miracles, so why can’t they dream of a miracle. I have enough experience to understand that we have a very good result but it is not over and I will try everything in my hands to persuade my players that it is not over,” added the Portuguese tactician.
The Turkish manager Fatih Terim agreed the club “need a miracle”, underlining: “there is a big difference in the quality of the players’’.
