Champions League: Manchester United hold Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid take advantage from Camp Nou visit

Manchester United managed to produce solid defensive performance to hold current champions Bayern Munich by 1-1 at Old Trafford despite calamitous season in Premier League.

Bayern Munich are still favourites after scoring an away goal but David Moyes’ side left the pitch with their heads held high. United deserve a credit for their fighting spirit and well-organized performance, despite giving away much of posession to Guardiola’s side Danny Welbeck hit the back of the net in the first half, but the goal was chalked off due to his foul on Javi Martinez in the build-up. The England international then had a brilliant chance to score when running one-on-one with Manuel Neuer but failed to make it past the Germany national team goalkeeper. Bayern best chance came with a fine curling effort from Arjen Robben, saved by David De Gea. Nemanja Vidic headed home on 58 minutes to put Old Trafford to extasy. However, Bastian Schweinsteiger equalized just nine minutes later to deny United’s perfect home record in the tournament this season. He then received a red card bof two bookable offences and will miss the return leg at Allianz Arena next week.

Atletico Madrid managed to score at Camp Nou through brilliant Diego strike and could make it to the semis should they keep a clean sheet at home next Tuesday. Neymar scored Barcelona’s equalizer after a fine Andres Iniesta’s pass.
