Champions League results: Barcelona 1-1 Paris Saint-Germain
Leo Messi came on as a substitute for Cesc Fabregas to inspire Barcelona to a 1-1 home draw against resilient Paris Saint-Germain side, which allowed the Spanish giants to make it through to the semi-finals on away goals.
One of the main intrigue ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-finals second leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain was whether Leo Messi will be included into the starting XI by Tito Villanova, as there were serious concerns about the fitness of the Argentinian. The Barca’s boss has decided to leave the winner of four Ballon d’Or trophies on the bench and Barca appeared anchorless for the most part of the opening half.
After Pastore has broken the deadlock, dinking the ball into the net in the 50th minute of the game, it seemed the Spanish giants are destined to be eliminated from the tournament.
However the introduction of Messi in the 60th minute has given a major boost to team’s confidence and turned the game on its head. It is after his run that Villa flicked the ball for Pedro, who found the net with an excellent drive from outside of the area in the 71st minute of the game.
