Champions League results: Bayern Munich 4-0 Barcelona
Bayern Munich delivered an incredible performance to see off the challenge of surprisingly lackluster Barcelona at Allianz Arena and kill off their Champions League semi-final tie. Mueller scored brace, while Gomez and Robben also added their names on the score sheet to record a marvelous 4-0 win over the mighty Catalans.
Thomas Mueller has broken the deadlock 25 minutes in the opening half with a close-range finish after Dante knocked down the ball from Robben’s cross. Bayern Munich extended their lead by courtesy of Mario Gomez’s goal from another corner four minutes into the second half, with Tito Vilanova’s side pointing out that the powerhouse forward was offside for his goal. Robben dribbled into the area to beat Valdes and add the third for Bayern Munich in the 73rd minute. Thomas Mueller executed block on Alba in the build-up, however the additional assistant referee decided not to flag for a foul. Thomas Mueller rounded off Bayern’s victory with a fine low shot in the 82nd minute of the game.
Despite Barcelona predictably dominating possession, Bayern Munich’s defenders led by Dante hardly put a foot wrong, effectively keeping Barca’s attackers at bay. All in all the Spanish giants found themselves outfought, outplayed, outclassed in almost every department by the orderly, powerful and composed German side. Barca hardly tested Bayern Munich stalwart Manuel Neuer for 90 minutes, amid the below-par performance from superstar Messi.
