Champions League results: Lewandowski netted four to sink Real Madrid

Lewandowski put in a man-of-the-match performance to score four goals and earn Borussia Dortmund a stunning 4-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Westfalenstadion.

Real Madrid are looking doomed to be eliminated from the Champions League semi-final for the third consecutive time after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of the German giants. Borussia have clearly shown they are not pushovers, despite being touted as the weakest team in the semi-final. Even the demoralizing leak about the summer transfer of their star Mario Goetze to rivals Bayern Munich, which could have had an adverse effect on team spirit, did not distract Borussia from the task in the hand. Striker Lewandowski has been particularly outstanding in his determination to give Real Madrid a master-class of incisive attacking football.

The Poland international, whose price has skyrocketed after the brilliant display delivered against Real Madrid, got Borussia to a flying start with a close-range finish from Goetze’s cross in the 8th minute. Real Madrid managed to level the game just before the half-time whistle by courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal. Lewandowski showed great composure in front of goal to toe-poke home in the 50th minute. Lewy added his third of the game with an excellent shot into the roof of the net five minutes later. No prizes for guessing who rounded off Dortmund’s victory, with the Pole converting the penalty in the 67th minute.

Real Madrid have slim chances of reaching the final, as they need to score at least three goals and not concede in the second leg of their tie.
