Champions League: Tuesday crucial matches

Champions League: Tuesday crucial matches

BATE – Valencia

The most surprising group leaders BATE will try to extend their winning start to the match against Valencia that has not seen victories in last five away Champions League games. In case the Belarusian side manages to collect 3 more points, the prospect of qualifying to the next round will look rather tangible. Valencia coach Mauricio Pellegrino claimed the game will be a demanding one, adding “the winless run of the team started before me and continues, and it is time to change it. We do not have to change anything specific on the pitch, we have to change our mentality.”

Barcelona – Celtic

Despite making a good start in the campaign, the match in Barcelona will be a difficult one for Celtic. At this moment it does not face serious opposition on domestic arena as far as Rangers were sent to the third division and that is why the Celts are fully focused on the main European tournament. Even though the margin between the sides is wide, Barca defense line that already conceded 17 goals in La Liga and Scottish enthusiasm may bring an unexpected result.

Chelsea – Shakhtar

The English side could face a difficult task playing against well-balanced Ukrainian champion Shakhtar. Both teams contend a place in the knock-out stage and both teams played in a draw against Juventus. Shakhtar has an experienced coach and technical quality that can end the successful run of the Blues.

Spartak – Benfica

The crucial match for the Russian team is today’s home game against Benfica as Spartak sank to the bottom on the table and now cannot waste any more points in the fight for the second place. The Moscow team showed signs of improvement in the last matches, despite losing to Anji on Saturday.

Benfica coach Jorge Jesus stated at the press conference: ”Spartak will take risks – they need to get a result. We may change our approach to the game because of this.”
