Championship news: Ameobi completed loan move to Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have confirmed Newcastle striker Sammy Ameobi joined the club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old Ameobi, who has made 14 appearances this season, is expected to help the Championship side in their bid for promotion to the Premier League. He will be ineligible to take part in Wednesday’s FA Cup encounter against Chelsea due to being cup-tied.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray said: “He gives us a different option and more options in an a similar way to Muzzy Carayol. He’s an out-and-out attacking wide player who can operate on either side and will be ideal when we want to play with two wingers. He will hopefully give some players a lift and create some competition.”
