Chelsea confirm Mourinho appointment
Chelsea have officially announced Mourinho is rejoining the club, following his departure from Real Madrid on mutual agreement.
The Portuguese, who has been a huge success at Stamford Bridge during his first spell between 2004 and 2007, agreed a four-year contract to replace interim Rafa Benitez.
Mourinho was linked with a return to Chelsea since January, due to a series of dissatisfying results and constant arguments with players at Santiago Bernabeu.
Chief executive Ron Gourlay said: “I am delighted to welcome Jose back to Chelsea. His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate. It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that.
“He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again,” he added.
Mourinho has won five major trophies with Chelsea, before moving to Inter Milan, where he completed a treble. Then he joined Real Madrid, ending Barcelona domination and winning La Liga at the first time of asking.
