City punish hapless United in Manchester derby and other Premier League results

Manchester City tore United defence apieces in the derby on Sunday.

The Citizens opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game courtesy of Sergio Aguero goal. Yaya Toure doubled the lead in the dying time of the first half after a corner kick. After the break City went on with two lighting-fast attacks to leave United’s central defence in tatters. Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were too slow to react and let Aguero and Nasri make it four with 40 minutes to go. With Robin van Persie out due to an injury, Wayne Rooney was the only threat to the hosts and scored with a brilliant curling effort from the free-kick.

Liverpool suffered a first defeat in the season at the hands of Southampton at Anfield. Arsenal beat Stoke City at The Emirates, Chelsea won for the first time since August in the match against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur needed 93 minutes to break Cardiff City defence.
