Confederations’ Cup results: Neymar on song, as Brazil beat Japan

Neymar scored a stunning early goal in the opening game of the Confederations Cup to help his side thrash Japan by 3-0.

After scoring an opener with a stunning volley from outside of the penalty area in the third minute, the new Barca striker was a constant threat to Japan’s defense. Keisuke Honda was close to scoring an equalizer, but was denied by Julio Cesar on two occasions. Paulinho extended Brazil’s lead with a fine shot from Dani Alves’ delivery. Substitute Jo put the game beyond doubt with a deftly executed finish after a perfect pass from Oscar in the added time.

The result means Brazil are topping the Group A, ahead of Italy on goal difference. The game was marred by the clashes between the protesters and police outside of the Mane Garrincha National Stadium, with the policemen using the tear gas to disperse the crowd, opposing the rise of prices ahead of World Cup.
