Confederations’ Cup results: Spain outplay Uruguay, despite Suarez’s stunning free-kick

Suarez’s brilliant free-kick late in the game was not enough to prevent Uruguay slipping to a 2-1 defeat against the defending World Cup champions.

The controversial Liverpool striker netted a beautiful effort past Iker Casillas with three minutes before the final whistle, but the final score does not reflect actual stand of things, as Spain were dominating the large swaths of the game.

Spain scored the opener, after Pedro’s volley deflected off Diego Lugano and into the net in the 18th minute. Soldado extended Spain’s lead 10 minutes later with an excellent shot. Uruguay clawed one back three minutes from time, but it was surely too late.

The victory allowed Spain climbing the top of Group B with three points.
