Disappointing start for the Red Devils

Disappointing start for the Red Devils

Robin Van Persie failed to make an impressive start for the Red Devils as his team fell to a 0-1 defeat to the Toffees at Goodison Park on Monday.

With most of the fans anticipating top-class performance from Manchester United new signings in the attacking line, such as Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, few paid attention to continuing problems in the defense, that seem to be chasing United for years. Even Nemanja’s long-awaited comeback was a poor consolation for Sir Alex Ferguson, missing Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans due to blows. He is not new to covering up the gaps in the back line with midfielders, but honestly, having both Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick clearing the attacks accompanied by the Serbian who had been absent for almost a year is just too much. No wonder Everton capitalized on that every now and then causing havoc in De Gea’s penalty area.

At the same time last year’s Premier League two best forwards and Danny Welbeck did not manage to impress from the very first game but it was obvious they needed time to get used to new formation and establish good collaboration.

So will Manchester United be strong enough this season to fight back the title? As often happens to the club, Sir Alex will need to sort the things out and find the answer. Probably the young and promising Dutch defender Alexander Buttner who is about to join the club is the one.
