Dortmund general manager: Lewandowski is going nowhere

Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke insists their prolific striker Robert Lewandowski stays at the club.

Earlier this month the in-demand Pole admitted he set his sights on a move away from Borussia Dortmund, with Bayern Munich considered his preferred destination. However Watzke denied the possibility of player leaving the club.

With Lewandowski’s deal is set to expire in 2014, it was widely expected the German giants will prefer to cash in on their valuable asset, rather than losing him for free next year. However Dortmund feel they will benefit more with Lewandowski within their ranks for one more season, than losing him to arch rivals Bayern Munich and trying to substitute the prolific striker with another player.

Lewandowski netted 54 goals in 98 Bundesliga appearances this season and became the first ever player to score four goals in Champions League semi-final, when he destroyed Real Madrid at Westfalenstadion.

Watzke said: “Robert will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season. We need this security to be able to plan (for the season).”
