€40 million for Javi Martínez is ‘obscene’ Jupp Heynckes says

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes underlines that they consider Javi Martínez as their primary goal on transfer market, although the fee of €40 million that Athletic Bilbao asks is overestimated and ‘obscene’.

Heynckes says the price does not reflect the real level of the player, adding that €20 is the sum he is ready to offer. He states that the potential escape route for the midfielder is a transfer request, yet he reckons this is unlikely to happen.

The head coach said that: ‘They told me that the player had declined a transfer to Bayern. But I laughed at that, as I know the Basque character and mentality, how the players have to come across to the outside world. The other thing is the excessive clause in the player’s contract. This is the major obstacle to signing him.’

Heynckes explained several days ago that he tried to persuade Martínez to sign the deal, but did not manage to speak to him personally.
