Europa League last-16 results: Inter 4-1 Tottenham

Europa League last-16 results: Inter 4-1 Tottenham

Tottenham edge past Inter Milan in a thrilling clash at San Siro to progress to Europa League quarter-finals by courtesy of Adebayor’s extra-time away goal.

The Spurs have entered in the second leg holding a comfortable 3-0 lead, which has seemingly killed the tie. However the North London side’s advantage has faded away into nothing after goals from Cassano, Palacio and the mistake from Gallas sending the ball past Friedel. Cassano scored the opener with a close-range header from Palacio’s cross in the 20th minute. Palacio extended Inter Milan’s lead with a curling shot after an excellent Cassano’s through pass in the 52nd minute. Gallas suffered an agony of putting the ball into his own net after Cassano’s free-kick with 15 minutes to go.

Villas-Boas managed to somehow encourage the team after the end of 90 minutes and Adebayor clawed one back in the 96th minute of the game. But Inter were not going to give up and Ricardo Alvarez revived Nerazzurri hopes for progression after scoring the fourth goal in the 110th minute. However the Italian side has not been able to add much-needed goal in the remaining minutes and Tottenham squeezed through despite the heavy 4-1 defeat.
