Europa League last 16 results: Tottenham all but knocked out after the first leg

Tottenham lost 3-1 to Benfica at White Hart Lane and are now unlikely to progress to the last eight stage.

Tottenham’s defensive troubles continued as they capitulated three times at home ground against Portuguese leaders Benfica in the last 16 round of Europa League last night. Rodrigo opened the scoring in the first half before Luisao doubled the lead on 58 minutes. Christian Eriksen pulled one back with a stunning free-kick, similar to that he converted against Dnipro, but Luisao completed a brace six minutes from time to put Spurs under huge elimination threat.

Juventus were held by fellow Serie A outfit Fiorentina in Turin, Porto beat Napoli 1-0 courtesy of Jackson Martinez strike.
