Europa League results: Chelsea 3-1 Basel

Europa League results: Chelsea 3-1 Basel

Chelsea too a step closer to adding another European trophy to their collection in their otherwise unremarkable season, as they made it through to the Europa League final after 3-1 win over Basel gave them 5-2 aggregate victory in their Europa League semi-final.

Basel were determined to try and deliver a fight against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Mohamed Salah gave them a glimmer hope as he put the visitors in front right before the half-time. However Chelsea’s rampant performance after the half time allowed them securing a comfortable 3-1 victory with Torres, Moses and Luiz adding their names on the score sheet within 10 minutes shortly after the half-time. Torres leveled the scoring with a tap-in in the 5-th minute. Moses gave Chelsea the lead with a close-range finish in the 52nd minute. David Luiz has scored a beauty of a goal with a superb curling shot just from outside of the area in the 59th minute.

Chelsea will face a tough challenge of Benfica in the final, as the Portuguese side outplayed Fenerbahce 3-1 to progress to the final. Should the Blues lift Europa League trophy this season, this will make them the first side in the history to claim the secondary European competition just a year after winning the Champions League title.
