Everton sign Romelu Lukaku on permanent deal

Everton have secured the services of Belgium international, Romelu Lukaku, on permanent basis for a fee of £28million after the 21-year-old had a successful loan spell with The Toffees last season. Lukaku has become the most expensive player in Everton history. The player signed a five-year contract and got number 10 shirt. Shortly after the deal had been completed, however, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed Romelu was not prepared to compete for a place in the sarting line-up: 'He wanted to play for Chelsea but clearly as the first choice striker which in club of our dimension very difficult to promise to a player that status. That reduced, immediately, his desire to come to us.' Everton head coach Roberto Martinez, in his turn, could not hide his joy over the deal: "Welcoming Romelu Lukaku back to Everton on a permanent basis is the news that all Evertonians wanted to hear."The arrival of Rom is more than just a signing, it's the fruition of a lot of hard work to get the player we wanted. This is a big moment for Everton's history and the perfect way of getting the squad ready for the start of the season.”
