FA sidelined British men’s team from Rio Olympics

Britain will be a doubtful starter for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Football Association General Secretary Alex Horne confirmed on Tuesday.

The British team got a first taste of Olympic action in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and has not featured for a remarkable international event until 2012. Some parties casted aspersions on the participation of the team in London Games as a joint team could run the hazard of losing the independence of four British football associations within FIFA. It is to be recalled that there were no Scottish or Irish players in Stuart Pearce’s squad at London 2012 meanwhile the Welsh were included.

Horne said the point is still under discussion but FA is inclined to rule out the British men’s team from Rio edition.
