Ferdinand: Tweeter is my fuel

Rio Ferdinand has got more than three million followers on Tweeter and writes messages practically every day, sometimes facing criticism from the fans and harsh reaction from United officials. Yet the player defends his media activity, claiming Tweeter is a fun and fuel that inspires his performance.

Ferdinand says that Tweeter brings fans closer to a player and lets them understand that he does simple and ordinary things every day. Ferdinand underlines most players lead a normal life despite playing in front of thousands of people and being on TV regularly.

The defender says: ‘I would like to have been able to be close to players like John Barnes and Paul Ince as I was a small kid. I would like to have got their autographs and speak to them publicly.’

The player states that writing on Tweeter and responding to other people’s comments requires a thick skin. ‘If you can’t take it then it’s not the place for you’ he adds.
