Figueroa injury woe for Wigan

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez confirmed defender Maynor Figueroa is set to be sidelined for the rest of the season due to injury.

The 30-year-old Honduras international was forced off during Wigan 2-2 draw with Tottenham, having sustained a groin injury. Figueroa has moved to Wigan from Honduran side Olimpia in 2008. He is considered a firm first-choice player at DW Stadium and is held in high regard by both the coaching staff and the players. The injury comes as a major blow to Wigan’s hopes of avoiding relegation this season.

Martinez confirmed that the player will definitely miss the remaining four Premier League games as well as FA Cup final against Man City on 11th of May. He said: “We have had real negative news with Maynor Figueroa. He came off in the game really early and the scans have confirmed our worst fears. He is going to be out for the rest of the season and probably a longer period.

“He is Mr Reliable, someone who has never missed any sort of time during the time he has been at Wigan Athletic. Unfortunately he is now going to miss the most important period in a season,” he added.
