Forrest, McCormack and Fox withdraw from Scotland squad

Celtic’s winger James Forrest, Southampton’s wingback Danny Fox and Leeds’ Ross McCormack have been withdrawn from Scotland first XI by Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee to face Wales.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon confirmed that Forrest is suffering from a back injury and is set to miss the crucial Scotland game against Wales. Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee are yet to explain the reasons for the withdrawals of Fox and McCormack.

Despite the whole squad meeting up on Sunday, some of the players were given an additional rest, including Brighton’s Liam Bridcutt, Dundee United’s Gary Mackay-Steven and Sunderland’s Steven Fletcher.

George Boyd is expected to make his first cap for Scotland national team, after his impressive run of form. The striker has netted three goals in his latest five games for Hull since joining the club from Peterborough.
