France vs Spain result

France vs Spain result

Spain won a hard-fought battle against France by a courtesy of Pedro goal to come back on top of World Cup qualifying Group I with three games to go.

Both sides have chances to score in the early stages of the game however Iniesta and Ribery missed the opportunities to score the crucial first goal. There was also notable incident as Spain had a penalty appeal ignored by referee, with Pedro being brought down by Lloris in the penalty area. Pedro got his goal in the second half, sliding the ball home from Nacho Monreal’s cross.

The things went from bad to worse for France as Paul Pogba was given his marching orders for two bad challenges within a minute. Despite home side knowing a win would take them to within a step of the World Cup, they failed to overturn a one-goal deficit as Matuidi’s header was denied by Valdes in the dying stages of the game.

The result saw Spain leapfrogging France into top spot. Currently the defending European and World champions are one point ahead their closest rivals.

Spain won, that's good! But there were some tough questions. For example: who will replace the "old guard"? (Xavi, Iñesta, Puyol) Where are the new front? Who will be the place of Torres and Villa?
Only goalies do not win the championship.
