Gary Cahill ruled out of San Marino match

Steven Taylor is set to replace Gary Cahill in the heart of England defense, as Chelsea man has been ruled out of San Marino clash due to fitness concerns.

The Blues’ defender has been assessed by the medical staff, who decided he is not fit enough to take part in the World Cup qualifier against San Marino. Cahill is set to be reassessed ahead of the second England game against Montenegro on Tuesday. Steven Taylor will team up either with Caulker, Smalling or Lescott to form a defensive line against the European minnows.

Taylor revealed he is delighted to be given a chance of representing England for the first time. He said: “I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad. It’s every player’s ambition to represent their country. If I am lucky enough to be given that chance over the next seven days, it will be one of the proudest moments of my playing career.”
